April Sotura’s vocal coaching was transformative for me. I wanted to “find my voice” both literally and spiritually in order to handle conflict situations and make academic presentations. April’s approach was comprehensive and sophisticated. She used her considerable voice, theater, and yoga skills along with her knowledge of psychology to clarify the physical and emotional obstacles I had to speaking freely and authentically. She was very intuitive and creative in designing techniques and exercises for my particular needs. She embodied unconditional support and encouragement in such a way that I could shed my inhibitions. I don’t have any performance background, and embarrassed easily. It helped that April was kind and very funny, and never shied away from demonstrating any exercise that she guided me through.

April’s coaching was essential to my being able to speak authentically and powerfully in high stress political situations that come up in my committee work. Our work on my academic presentation surpassed all my expectations. Not only was April able to vastly improve my speaking style, she improved the whole presentation with content suggestions and editing. I went from dreading giving the talk to being excited about the opportunity to convey my ideas and point of view. I had the confidence to take some risks, and got excellent feedback.
